Rice Lake Curly Leaf Pondweed Removal Project

The Rice Lake Association of Mercer, WI, has received a grant to remove curly leaf pondweed from the lake in order to prevent/minimize downstream contamination in the Turtle River Watershed. If this invasive weed is not controlled it will ultimately infest the Turtle Flambeau Flowage.  This year’s project is tentatively set to start around May 24th.  It focuses on hand pulling of the plant.  There are 20 paid positions at $15/hour for 80 hours available. Complete the application form if you, your friends or family can help.

They also need support staff, and other non-paid volunteers.

The grant is for three years with a total of $127,000.  The Rice Lake Association is responsible for 25% of that total or $31,750.  That’s a big amount for a small lake association with just 16 members.  Donations of money or equipment or lunches for the volunteers would be greatly appreciated.  The Rice Lake Association is not a 501c3 organization, so if you wish your donation to be tax deductible send it to:
