Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Scott Reinhard. Scott was the current president of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage Association, Inc. and passed away in September.

‘Conservation on Tap’ talks Flambeau fishery

MERCER, Wis. – Those who fish the Turtle Flambeau Flowage should largely be pleased with the state of its fishery, according to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist Zach Lawson.

Lawson provided an update on the health of the flowage’s fishery and the results of an extensive survey of the water’s fish populations at the Pines restaurant in Mercer Tuesday as latest talk in the annual “Conservation on Tap” lecture series.

Volunteers Needed for our Annual Purple Loosestrife Survey

Volunteers are needed to do purple loosestrife surveys on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and Trude lake. The survey needs to be done during the last two weeks of July. The DNR and County Conservation Department relies on us to do the hunting for Loosestrife because finding it is resource intensive. The Loosestrife should be in bloom during the time the Survey is conducted making it much easier to identify.

Wow! This has been a tough year for Wisconsin waters. We lost local control of our shoreland zoning.

The Wisconsin DNR has been further crippled:

Most of the good people in the Solid Waste Management Division are gone.
Most of the good people in the department which permits and inspects concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO’s) are gone.
DNR Employees are forbidden to express the facts of climate change.
