6:31 PM- Call to Order: Randy Schubert, President

Present: Randy Schubert, President; Jeff Malison, Vice President; Roger Nelson, Treasurer; Todd Jirous, Secretary; Directors: Randy Payne, Jeff Wilson, Jim Kohl, Joanna Vodicka Terry Daulton, Jim Moore and Tom Mowbray

The meeting minutes for December 2023 were presented. A motion was made by Jeff Wilson to accept the minutes as presented, the motion was seconded, and all were in favor.

Roger Nelson and the Treasurer’s report: $3,900 received in dues, $1,600 in special funds. Spent $2,100 from the Special Fund last year for Invasive Species control.
Only about 50% of our income is from dues.
Active members in 2023 was approximately 155. Membership the last two years has been about 180-185. Our income is currently covering expenses
Jeff W. made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report; all were in favor

Membership Committee: Roger N.
Roger reported that he went to the County Seat and got a list of the possible members from the Mercer and Sherman townships.
Roger sent out 342 letters to “non-members”, 5 days ago, and has received responses from 2 so far.
Randy P. will ask Sue to do a promotional blast on Facebook for new members
If Roger can provide a list of who isn’t a member, by street, then we can focus on those.
When we do the renewal this year, lets do it by email first, and then send follow-up letters

Water Level Committee: Tom M. and Jim M.
Water levels failed to reach the Spring Refill level of 1571.5- it was 2.5 feet below the target
There were emails and replies beginning on 2/06/2024 with concern for the water level to Rob Olson and the DNR. The last dismissive letter was received from the DNR on 4/16.
The DNR is supposed to be watching out for the shoreline, animals and fish, and they are not providing that oversight in this role.
There are several options to take action, and a dialog was had on the pros and cons of each and the possible long-term impact on relationships.

Fish Management Committee: Jim K
Smallmouth spawn is on now, and with the water down 1-1.25 feet
Volunteers (including Jim) have been monitoring the Manitowish River for Sturgeons
Jim could use another two people on the Fish Committee if anyone knows someone that would be interested, please contact him

Water Quality Committee: Todd J
As we all know, it was a rather unusual “Ice Out” period…it went out and came back, and happened at different times on the Flowage; resulting in a wide variety of “Ice Out” samples, but that’s OK. We’re good right now for having all the sampling locations covered.

Invasive Species: Randy P
Randy is working with Northland to apply for and secure a grant for Eurasian Milfoil study/control
Rice Lake is now entertaining the possible purchase of a Weed Cutter for controlling Curly Leaf Pondweed (CLP)
We will be hiring the Discovery Center again this year for two weeks to help with controlling CLP on the Turtle River and Pike Lake

Education Committee: Terry D
We have a new volunteer to be on the Committee; Troy T
The next Newsletter will be 8 pages

New Business:
Randy S.- 100 year anniversary; do we want to do something for this?
Scott Tomack has a Board with Signatures
Perhaps reach out to Melissa at the Chamber and partner with them?
Randy S will reach out to Melissa at the Chamber and inquire about the “Governor’s Opener”

Randy S- Elections; Jeff Malison’s and Jean Burn’s positions will be open
Possibly Carl near Gateway is interested?

Our annual meeting is Saturday, June 22nd at 10 am at the Community Center

Meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm…all running to shelters

Respectfully submitted

Todd Jirous
Secretary
